Is it possible to reverse the performance tuning?

Certainly it is possible at any time to put your vehicle in the standard condition. For Wetterauer customers, this service is free of course.

Will tax and insurance change?

The motor vehicle tax rates remain the same, because the exhaust and noise emission limits are not changing.The engine power is not decisive for the insurer anymore, but the specific type of vehicle classes and the varying depending on the insurance calculation principles. Optimizing performance does not change the type class. So the insurance premiums do not increase.

What should I do after the tuning?

Basically, you must not handle an optimized vehicle in another way than a standard car. However, we would like to tell you how to enjoy your automobile for a long time: Please follow the required maintenance intervals.Check the oil level regulary and change oil on time. Pay attention on the oils quality. It is important not to burden the engine before the appropriate oil temperature was not reached. If you drive a vehicle with a turbocharger, give your vehicle a few minutes at idle speed after longer tripswith full load, so that the turbocharger can cool down. If a gasoline engine is installed in your vehicle, we recommend high-quality fuel with an octane number of 98 octane or higher. Otherwise, there may be significant performance degradation. Performance tuning is optimized for higher octane numbers and completely uses them.

Is an additional controller used for the optimization?

No, we do not use additional control units. Those only manipulate an input signal and thereby provoke an error that should lead to greater injection quantity. In most cases the results are bad and the pressure extremely high.

Will my car be tuned on the bench?

Even during the development of a performance optimization, our test vehicle is checked in numerous bench and driving tests.The fine tuning of your car is done on a certified bench, too. Because only there the engines performance, especially the power development, the engines characteristics and the torque curve, can be set to the smallest detail, be checked and adjustet. The TÜV engineers and the automobile press are testing our optimzed vehicles extensively, too. So we can guarantee the practicality and durability of all our products. For emissions inspection the cars are brought to special test institutes. There, engineers check the exhaust emission limits, without which it would be impossibel to get the a official TÜV report. Therefore, a bench test of your vehicle is not necessary. Of course, we check the performance of your vehicle on a test stand and draw up a performance chart on request. We recommend two measurements as part of the improvements for a meaningful performance chart.

Acceleration and top speed

How changes the acceleration? Does the top speed increase significantly? Acceleration and top speed are depending on many factors. Sometimes differences can be established for the same models with different equipment. The combination of wheels and tires as well as other technical changes are largely decisive for answering this question. Please note that our figures of the speed and acceleration only are indicative and therefore vary considerably. Using turbo engines, the better acceleratio is clearly noticeable. Concerning the maximum speed:you need very much performance in order to be able to drive really faster, because the wind resistance rises in the second power. In addition the transmission is often co-ordinated in the translation in such a way, that at the highest speed is reached at the number of revolutions of the highest achievement. But with rising speed and number of revolutions the achievement sinks with all turbo engines, so that depending upon vehicle and structure an increasing speed of about 5 km/h is possible.

What about higher performance?

Is it possible to get more performance than officially indicated? Of course it is possible to obtain a higher achievement. However in that cases the fixed exhaust limit values are crossed often and a TÜV entry is not possible anymore. We offer - in your interest - such versions only for the motorsports engines or for export, because with a normal road vehicle these optimizations lead to an unnecessarily high wear. Our philosophy is to increase the maximumperformance, without increasing the abrasion of your car.

What is changed during the optimization?

Depending on the controller generation different tools and access options are used. The series data of the manufacturer are always adjusted individually. Here normally the durations of injection, ignition and e.g. the load printing are changed. The current generations of controllers are programmed generally over the diagnostic socket (OBD) of the manufacturer.

Does the manufacturer notice the changes, for example with the service?

The chip behaves with the diagnosis neutrally, i.e. it is not to be recognized with the diagnose unit. The dealer can do all necessary diagnostic work without restriction.

Do I need other tyres after the optimization?

The speed rating is to be considered. In most case the buffer is large enough to afford a higher speed. In some special cases we depend with the maximum speed on the existing tires, in order to go to a new acquisition out of the way. In special cases we suit the maximum speed to the existing tires, so that you do not have to purchase new ones.

Motor

How does the consumption change?

A higher performance is often reached by the consumption of more fuel. The vehicle is not constantly driven with full power. Normally consumption decreases during "everyday driving". Apart from burn-technical reasons (spark advance/injection) this is reasoned by the higher torque. Because of this stronger torque you can drive low-speed, change the gears earlier and so reduce the number of revolutions. The friction in the engine is lower and a better consumption is possible. With a normal way of driving a decrease in consumption of about ½ litre is realistic. So called ECO Tuning is nothing else and does not allow higher savings.

Does the engine wear faster?

A higher wear of the engine is not measurable. It only arises when the engine is driven above the serial performance permanently. With a normal way of driving no changes are determined. Today's engine generations are supervised by a multiplicity of sensors, which provide a smooth operation. In addition the engines are conceived by the manufacturer in such a way, that they have an enormous stability and are suitable for daily use. The manufacturers sell their vehicles world-wide and develop engines, that work under extreme climate conditions and with qualitatively bad fuels as well as in the mild European climate and with high-quality gasoline. Therefore engines are very firm and have many reserves, which we use for our optimizations. As the manufacturers pay high attention on stability and functionality during the engine development, Wetterauer pays high attention on the perfection during the optimization. Our optimizations are naturally are conceived that the life span of the engine is not effected. An increased wear is only possible if the increased output is permanently used or the engine is excessively loaded before reaching the operating temperature.

Is the engine running more hot?

The oil temperature rises only a little (with full load). Since all protective functions of the engine are maintained, the car's life span is not affected. If the engine should become warmer, the supervising controller would reduce the performance again.

Is the life span of the aggregates changing?

Also after our performance optimization the limit values of the engine and all pertinent components are not exceeded. With a normal there is no increased wear. The engine's "health" is determined primarily by the temperature of the burned exhaust gases. The exhaust gas temperatures are controlled and stay beneath the limit values.

Can Automatic Vehicles be optimized?

Automatic Vehicles often use another controller software, otherwise there is no difference. The new operating conditions are adapted automatically over CAN bus (a network system that lets the controllers in the vehicle communicate with each other). This " comunication" ensures the harmonious interaction of both components. Exceptions are the AUDI VOLKSWAGEN models with the engines 2,5 TDI, 2,7 Biturbo and 4,2 Biturbo. There the gearbox control module has to be changed, in order to transfer the higher torques harmoniously. The change is included in the normal price.

Can gas-powered engines be optimized?

Yes - the type of the fuel does not matter., so an optimization is possible. The compaction of gas is even better than from gasoline, since gas has a higher octane number.

Why doesn't the manufacturer adjust the vehicle to the optimal value?

During the construction of an engine and the adjustment of the controller the manufacturer have to do a balancing act: insurance classes, different fuel qualities in different countries and a lack of maintenance shall not have an unfavorable effect on the car. In addition consideration to other vehicle classes in the company offer must be given. Engines are throttled with the software, in order to protect the price difference to the next higher vehicle category. Besides also the manufacturing tolerance can be important: if the vehicle is tested after production on the stand, it should be possibly raise the performance. In fact of that, tolerances are necessary. Wetterauer offers an individual solution, which is adjusted perfectly to the habits and preferences of the car owner.

Can I refuel my optimized vehicle with eco-diesel?

Of course you can. If the vehicle has a release for eco-diesel, there are no problems. Eco-diesel can damage seals, which are planned for it. The achievement optimization does not concern that.

Can I attach a sport exhaust system?

By using a sport exhaust system the engine has a smaller exhaust counter-pressure. Thus it can press the exhaust gas easier out of the the engine (=less energy is needed). That means a higher performance. Actually the performance optimization does not need to be changed. The temperatures for turbochargers and engine decreases a little. For exactly that is one of the most important borders during optimization – if you do not want to damage the engine – we can "fill up" the won temperature difference with more load printing and get more performance. The achievement yield lies within the range of approx. 5-7 HP.

Dieselpartikelfilter

Can vehicles with particle filters be optimized, too?

Yes. The function of the particle filter is supervised by the engine control unit.When the filter is "loaded" , i.e. filled with soot, a purification process is started.This process is necessary, because the soot particles can only be oxidized with a certain operating temperature of the filter. This operating temperature is not reached in the partial load range e.g. during city trips or on the highway.The control unit supervises the loading condition by the exhaust counter-pressure. If the filter is filled accordingly, the temperature of the exhaust gas is artificially increased. This is done via additional injection as well as via throttling the supplied fresh air mass. The exhaust gas gets hotter and the filter empties itself by oxidation. During sporty driving with high load requirements the exhaust gas is getting hotter anyway and the filters is already cleaned during the normal operating cycles. Since the exhaust counter-pressure is higher in the loaded condition of the filter, higher temperatures can develop in the exhaust strand, which we consider during the optimization.

Does the brake have to be strengthened?

With our optimizations no further technical measures must be accomplished. The increased performancet is well accepted by the standard brake assembly. That is because the manufacturers include sufficient security reserves, which are not exceeded after the optimization.

What is with an inspection?

The serial software contains diagnostic routines. However, these are not changed during the performance optimization. The electronic engine management remains thus completely diagnosticable and can be read out by the interface of the onboard diagnosis. The changed software is to be recognized not direct over diagnostic minutes. However higher attitudes can be based on the diagnose unit under load according to.The optimized software is to not be recognized directly by the diagnostic journal. What is the maximum mileage?

The engine is impaired by an optimization during a small run achievement just as little as during an optimization with a very high run achievement. The general rule is that the total condition is decisive for the optimization. If the vehicle was duly waited and is in a technically perfect condition, nothing opposes an optimization. Therefore Wetterauer examines all vehicles exactly before the optimization. If errors or lacks are located, we reject an performance optimization, until the problem is solved.

Does the warranty of the manufacturer expires automatically with an optimization?

The general rule is every vehicle manufacturer is responsible for his products. Thus the work warranty remains valid, if it concerns lacks which are not effected by the performance optimization. Nevertheless some manufacturers state, the achievement optimization would be responsible for damages in the engine range. Therefore our special Wetterauer warranty is recommended. We offer on our Wetterauer software 5 years warranty. Optionally you can lock a Wetterauer warranty, which secures you with possible damage within the range engine, transmission and drive.

How long is the warranty on the optimization valid?

The components used by Wetterauer are quality construction units of the computer industry. They have the same or better specifications as those the vehicle manufacturer use. Thereforewe give a five years warranty on all inserted components and the software. In addition we optionally offer a full engine warranty. It includes all possibly arising damage of the engine, transmission or drive strand of your vehicle. It emphasizes our high requirement to a high-quality products. Please also read our guarantee conditions.

Umbau

Is the optimization visible outside?

No. But of course the achievement is measurably e.g. on test stands. However nothing is to be regarded with the electronics. The diagnose units of garages can regularly be used and do not show any changes of the system.

How is the expiration of a performance optimization?

It's your choice: Either the optimization is accomplished at our headquarter or one of our Wetterauer Tuning Points at your destination, or you send the control unit to us by mail. If you decide for the second variant, you have to remove the control unit on your own. Please note that the duration of the re-equipment takes at least 2 days because of the dispatch (by express package service). Controllers, which arrive before 11 o'clock are sent back on the same day. We recommend to do the perfomance optimization of your vehicle at a Wetterauer Tuning Point. The achievement optimization is mostly done over the standard OBD interface (Onboard diagnosis), like the manufactorer does. The serial software is first read out and then fitted with the characteristic diagrams, which we developed on our test stand and which was examinde by the engineers of an exhaust laboratory. The optimized software is programmed into the vehicle. This expiration needs about until two hours. Each Wetterauer software is developed in the laboratory in Koblenz and examined carefully. If the optimization is done at a Wetterauer Tuning point at your destination, the characteristic diagram data of your vehicle is read out with the same programming system. Afterwards the data are sent to Koblenz, where the optimization takes place in the same quality. Of course we can adapt the expiration also individually on your desires.
